On the Needles

Well, I was sick on Sunday so no knitting meant I was refreshed and recharged for work on my green sweater! I have 1.5 inches until I...cut my sweater. YIKES!

No, not really yikes. I've been watching the wonderful Knitting Around DVD that Aba got me and there are 3 sweaters with steeking plus some afterthought pockets and thumbs. I've also had to tink enough with this yarn to know that my knitting won't be going anywhere. Seriously, people. I went two stitches past a decrease and had to disengage the fibers. And that isn't including the hassle dropping a stitch for the phony seams.

In all honesty I'm contemplating not even bothering with sewing them. It seems like to much hassle to get out the machine for. The scariest part of tomorrows knitting is grafting the shoulders. My kitchener, while serviceable, isn't too pretty. I suppose I'll rewatch EZ and Meg work on the underarms of some awfully complicated looking pullovers to get my courage up.

On the Needles

Its WIP Wednesday again!

On Sunday evening I cast-on Elizabeth Zimmermann's Green Sweater.I'm using the original Briggs and Little sport yarn in Fir Green and I'm at the point of putting in the arm steeks if I make dolman sleeves.

I'm trying to do two inches a day. I'm ahead of my goal so far. I cast on Sunday morning and have 6 inches of sweater and 1.5 inches of hem already folded. I'm already getting bored of the stockinette but I've told myself I can cast on something out of chunky weight yarn on Sunday if I focus on this.

On the Needles

Woot! My second installment of WIP Wednesday!

I've been a sweater-knitting fool this past week and I'm itching to finish February Fitted Pullover. I don't know that I'll get it done this week, but I'm pretty close. I have 4.5 inches on the back, the sleeves and the garter-stitch trim. I'm aiming for having it completed by February 1.

The reason I won't finish this up next week? Sunday I'm planning on swatching up Elizabeth Zimmermann's Green Sweater and casting it on when I get gauge. I've wound two hanks of yarn and am letting them rest. (Meg Swanson wrote somewhere that this yarn torques easily and needs a good rest after winding.) This will be my first steeking experience. I'm really excited!

I finished fixing Thing 3's jacket and Thing 2's was made so much larger than needed that it doesn't need any altering. So Thing 1's is left. That will be my knitting night project so they can wear it on Shabbat.

The socks are still hanging out waiting.

On the Needles

I'm finally getting in with WIP Wednesday! Woot!

I just finished knitting up Idlewood and it is blocking. Will get photos when it is nice and dry.

I'm turning the heel on my second sock for Pom-Pom Anklets.

One more lace repeat and then I'm ready to split February Fitted Pullover for the upper body.

I've also started up-sizing the girls' Joseph Jackets that I made two years ago. They fit all over except the sleeves are 3 inches too short. I still have the yarn I used so I'm picking up at the cuffs and working 3-1/2 inches of garter for the cuffs. The girls have also requested buttons instead of zippers so I'll be taking out the zippers next.

I'm also considering picking up along the front edge and adding a couple rows of garter stitch so the front would lie flat. I'm not sure if I have the yarn, though. Also I don't think the girls will get another year of wear from the jackets so I might be better off putting the time into another jacket.
